Sports Aluminum Driveshaft Advantages
Driveshaft Specialist builds each driveshaft in our shop. Explicit attention to detail and workmanship on each and every driveshaft. Our Hi-Speed Balancing of the the driveshaft ensures it will run perfectly smooth. We use stainless steel driveshaft weights which will not rust and look bad over time.
Less Weight - Sports Aluminum driveshafts can take as much as 50% total weight and rotating mass out the driveshaft compared to an OE steel driveshaft. This can improve power and performance. Possibly even a bit of fuel mileage improvement.
Less Complexity - when compared to an OE 2 piece type driveshaft. The Sports Aluminum driveshaft eliminates the center support bearing assembly and considerable weight. U-Joints - Sports Aluminum driveshafts use the Spicer XL 1310 series U-Joint.
This is a larger and stronger upgraded size from the OE type U-Joint. The Spicer XL is an Extreme Life and Extreme Duty U-Joint. Superior quality steel alloys and grease seals. This U-Joint will never sling grease all over the bottom of your car. This U-Joint is easily replaceable. The 1310 series U-Joint is the most common Universal Joint ever produced. Any Auto Parts store will always have the 1310 series U-Joint, just not the Spicer XL quality. Typical lifespan of 100,000 miles is common. NO auto parts store U-Joint can compare with the Spicer XL U-Joint in strength and durability.
Most of our competitors are using a cheaper greaseable U-Joint. Keep this in mind when comparing prices as the Spicer XL U-Joint is a premium product and would add $20 to their pricing.
Shown below is a OE type 2 piece driveshaft from a Nissan 300ZX. 1 piece driveshaft shafts are similar, but missing the mid section with the carrier bearing. Most brands have similar appearing driveshafts either in a 2 piece or 1 piece configuration.
The OE 1 and 2 piece has staked in U-Joints which are not field serviceable. Click on the photo to see an enlarge view of the staked in U-Joint. Sports Aluminum driveshafts have easily serviceable 1310 series universal joints.

Fitment Information
Measurement Information if needed. Use M1-4 as shown (click image) if a custom application. We have most OE lengths on file. Occasionally we may need this simple length check to verify fitment. We like doing it right - the first time.
NOTE: M1-4 measure sheet. On IRS (independent rear suspension) the rear suspension DOES NOT have to be loaded as instructions indicate. Transmission output shaft spline count (if necessary). Accuracy is critical. Please check at least 2 times (maybe more).
We may need a bolt circle diameter and bolt pattern check on the rear flange. See flange dimensions at bottom of Measure Sheet page for assistance. Fitment Note: Some of the transmissions have sheet metal type shield at the end of transmission. This will have to be taken off in most cases. It is a light press fit and taps off easily with a hammer. Due to the increased size of the U-Joints and transmission yoke swing diameter it has to be removed.
